Achieving B Corp certification is an incredibly proud moment for Literacy Tree and the team at the heart of it. It represents far more than a badge or accreditation. It is a recognition of our commitment to doing business in a way that benefits not only our organisation, but also our employees, communities, and the planet.
At its core, B Corp certification is about accountability and impact. Certified B Corporations meet rigorous standards of social and environmental performance, transparency, and governance. In a world where businesses are increasingly expected to do more than simply generate profit, this certification demonstrates that companies can succeed while also acting responsibly and sustainably.

This recognition comes at a pivotal moment for education. The Department for Education's 2025 Curriculum Review is clear. “Our curriculum must equip young people for a world that is changing quickly [...] The climate crisis brings wide ranging, urgent challenges to address, but also opportunities to seize.” That intention aligns closely with our mission. Through the texts we choose and the curriculum we design, we aim to help children understand the world they are inheriting, and their crucial role within it.
Literacy is as much about giving children the knowledge, language and confidence to engage with the issues that will shape their future, as it is about reading and writing!

Becoming a B Corp is the result of many deliberate choices we have made over time. We have continued to grow and diversify the Literacy Tree bookshelf so that children encounter texts which explore environmental themes, social responsibility and global perspectives. I highly recommend keeping your eyes peeled for our upcoming Earth Day book list!
We have also been thoughtful about how we operate as a team, including where we are based and how we work day to day. We have chosen to base Literacy Tree HQ at Workspace for this very reason. They have rolled out initiatives to cut down the environmental impact of their office spaces and reduce the carbon footprint.

We have also built partnerships that extend our impact beyond the classroom and office, such as our work with Just One Tree, where we donate for every new school that joins us to support reforestation.
For our organisation, becoming a B Corp validates something that has always been part of our culture. We are purpose led and values driven. Check out our About Us page if you'd like to learn more about who we are and what we stand for. The certification will also shape how we think about the future. Education has a critical role to play in preparing young people for a rapidly changing world. As technology evolves and environmental challenges become more urgent, the need for a curriculum that builds awareness, critical thinking and empathy has never been greater. Through our work, we aim to support schools in meeting that need in a way that is both ambitious and meaningful.
Personally, it makes me feel incredibly proud to be part of a company that places purpose alongside performance. Working in an environment where values are actively lived creates a culture where people feel motivated, empowered, and connected to a bigger mission.

B Corp certification also benefits our customers and partners. It signals that we hold ourselves to high standards and are committed to transparency and continuous improvement.
Achieving B Corp status is not the end of the journey. It is a milestone along the way. The certification challenges us to keep improving, to keep questioning how we operate, and to keep striving to make a positive difference.
