Thematic link: Links are made through themes and conventions within significant literature. Linked language: The language of the text is explored and practised as well as being enriched and extended by practitioners. Opportunities for peer talk and adult child talk are foregrounded throughout. Children acquire new language and sentence structures. Discovery point: Dramatic conventions support immersion and create a hook with the book to create resonance. Readiness to write: Reasons to Write hold implicit audience and purpose developing children's sense of themselves as authors. Fine and gross motor activities throughout, physically prepare children for transcription. Song, rhythm and rhyme: Song, rhythm and rhyme opportunities presented within the text are explored as well explicit occasions to engage in singing or rhyme. Interactive reading: Children actively engage with texts through acting, repeating words and role-play. Preparing children to answer questions around the text and develop skills of empathy and understanding. This serves as a stepping stone to embedded reading comprehension. Play: Invitations to Play include activities to inspire writing or mark making, gross and fine motor activities and a range of activities linked to other prime and specific areas.
