Our online half-day pedagogy workshops have continued to prove a hit with our membership schools this term! Our consultants have been busy working with teachers across the country and beyond, supporting them to develop their understanding of and expertise in using Literary Leaves, Spelling Seeds, Mixed Age Planning Suggestions and Shared Writing.
We always ensure our training sessions are full of practical advice so that teachers can feel confident using our resources to support high quality English teaching. Top tips from our sessions included:
Enjoy reading for its own sake and allow children time to react to the text - not every session has to end with children responding to comprehension questions.

Reduce cognitive load by supporting children to investigate, practise and apply taught spelling rules within the context of the high-quality literature they are already immersed in. Look for opportunities to build these meaningfully into shared writing in other English sessions for reinforcement and application in context.
Find methods of teaching that suit you and your class. Pre-teaching; asking different year groups to attend to different aspects as you model writing and delivering split inputs can all be valid.

When choosing which approach(es) to use in shared writing, consider children’s prior knowledge with key learning. If children are new to a skill, they will need to see it modelled successfully before contributing to scribed writing or shared editing.
Our Spring Term half-day pedagogy workshops are already available to book on our website with one free place available for every membership school. To find out more click here.
