Overview and Outcomes:

This is a 15-session Literary Leaf for Usborne Politics for Beginners by Alex Frith, Rosie Hore and Louie Stowell. This Literary Leaf covers all aspects of the Key Stage 2 content domain and offers many rich opportunities for children to learn and discuss various political concepts. The book itself combines effective text and illustrations in a straightforward, eye-catching way that makes this subject accessible, fun and extremely relevant for children. The Literary Leaf begins with children articulating their own opinions and feelings about politics. They will go on to learn about different political ideologies and parties, civil society and levels of governance – local, national and international – all the while building their vocabulary, learning how to debate using evidence and refining their own critical thinking.

Synopsis of Text:

With Brexit and constant political uncertainty in the UK, people are more confused by politics than ever before. Politics for Beginners answers the questions that people are afraid to ask, offering a no-nonsense guide to what politics is all about.

Topics covered include political systems, elections, voting and government and issues including feminism, human rights, freedom of speech and fake news, all explained with clear text and bright, infographics style illustrations.
