Overview and Outcomes:

This is a 15-session Literary Leaf for Adventuremice: Otter Chaos! by Philip Reeve and Sarah McIntyre, covering all aspects of the Key Stage 2 content domain.  Children will join Pedro the mouse on his adventure and the characters he meets along the way as he is rescued by, and subsequently goes on to help the hero squad known as the Adventuremice.  Children will explore how the illustrations and language go hand in hand to tell the story of Pedro and his new friends, make inferences and predictions about different characters and events in the story, discuss emotions and feelings felt at different stages in the story as well as taking part in confidence corridors to decide whether to save a certain villain who ends up in a spot of trouble.  Children also summarise the events of the story through writing postcards in role as Pedro.  

Synopsis of Text:

Adventuremice: Otter Chaos! is the first of six books in the Adventure Mice series by talented duo, Philip Reeve and Sarah McIntyre. Published by David Fickling Books in 2023, the book introduces our hero, Pedro, to the reader and we discover that he dreams of being an adventurer. When all does not go to plan, he is rescued by The Adventure Mice and then the real adventure begins for Pedro! When a scary otter starts causing trouble in The Mouse Islands, he soon gets the chance to prove himself heroic enough to join the team. With great characters, lots of humour and fantastic illustrations including detailed maps to pore over, this is the perfect book for year 3 to enjoy and could set them off on an independent reading for pleasure adventure all of their own.
