Length:

Overview and Outcomes:

This is a 12-session Literary Leaf for The Magic Finger by Roald Dahl which begins by making predictions about the book including what the magic finger might do. The leaf goes on to explore the characters of the Greggs and how they change and learn from their experiences. It finishes by looking at the character of the girl and thinking about how she uses her magic finger for good - and the children think about what positive change they might make with a magic finger.

Synopsis of Text:

We chose this book for a Literary Leaf as we love Roald Dahl and we know he represents a route into reading for so many children.

Every Saturday morning the Greg family goes off to shoot animals and birds. But the girl who lives next door hates hunting.

Now it's made her so angry she's PUT THE MAGIC FINGER ON THEM ALL. And very strange things have begun to happen . . .
