Own version rhyming narrative | Captions and labels, own version narrative
10 sessions, 2 weeks
In this ten-session Writing Root, which we suggest will take 3 weeks to cover, the children find rhyming animal-object pairs. They investigate who should sit where through the reading of Oi Frog and develop this idea through role-play in a furniture shop! The children perform in role as the bossy cat and create rule posters. Finally, they devise their own rhyming pairs of animals and objects and through using strategies such as supported sentences, they write their own version rhyming narrative.
Cats sit on mats, hares sit on chairs, mules sit on stools and gofers sit on sofas, but Frog does not want to sit on a log! Jam-packed with animals and silliness, this original rhyming story will have young children in fits of laughter.
From award-winning author Kes Gray and award-winning illustrator Jim Field, this book is part of a series of wonderful books, including Oi Dog! and Oi Puppies! all of which enjoy playing with language, rhyme and phonics in thoroughly silly and entertaining ways. A brilliant book for children to practise their phonics and deepen their understanding of rhyme as well discuss their favourite animals.
