£5.00 Incl. VAT

Main Outcome:

Instructional guide to being brave

Length:

10 sessions , 2 weeks

Additional Outcomes:

Writing in role, letters, captions and labels, narrative retellings

Overview and Outcomes:

In this ten-session sequence, which we suggest will take 3 weeks to cover, the children arrive to class to find that the role- play area has been set up as a Training School For The Brave. They think about what it means to be brave and meet a character – Willy the Wimp – who is anything but brave. They write letters of advice to Willy, infer his feelings and talk about being confident as well as brave. They explore Costumes for Confidence, making links to the text Halibut Jackson before finally helping Willy to write ‘Willy’s Guide to Being Brave’. Phonics teaching is embedded throughout and suggestions for Continuous Provision are also made.

Phonics Provision:

Letters & Sounds Phase 3, Weeks 6 & 7

Synopsis of Text:

Willy wouldn't hurt a fly - he even apologizes when someone hits him. The suburban gorillas call him Willy the Wimp. Then, one day, Willy answers a body-building advert ... with hilarious results! Celebrate 30 years of the classic picture book in this special anniversary edition by multiple-award-winner Anthony Browne.
