This training session will support teachers to consider ways of building enduring reading communities during the National Year of Reading, helping ensure that Reading for Pleasure is embedded in their schools and communities. Designed for busy teachers and subject leaders, the session will focus on the significance of Reading for Pleasure communities, the impact of an enduring legacy from the National Year of Reading and the session will provide practical tips for implementation in schools.
During the session we will:
- Explore reading landscapes and discuss why reading communities are important, answering the questions ‘why now?’ and ‘what next?’
- Consider how to build on existing reading communities in order to embed reading cultures and create a legacy from the National Year of Reading
- Provide practical tips for implementing Reading for Pleasure in schools, including tips for Summer Reading, a look at Recommended Reads by Literacy Tree, and how to share these with school communities
Participants will receive:
- A clear overview of Reading for Pleasure and how to build reading communities
- Practical, school-ready strategies for embedding a reading culture
- Book recommendations and top tips
