With a new academic year on the horizon, we know that teachers will be thinking ahead to difficult spending decisions. At Literacy Tree, we recognise the pressures of ever-tightening school budgets and the necessity to save wherever possible. That’s why we have put measures in place to make books more accessible and literacy provision more affordable for our member schools. This blog post provides three avenues to help you raise and save, which we hope you will find useful in the coming year.

1. 30% discount with Peters

With a Literacy Tree membership, teachers can enjoy exclusive discounts on book purchases through our trusted supplier, Peters. Members receive 30% off all texts, with the discount increasing to 32% when ordering 15 or more copies of the same title. You can also use the code LITTREE30 at checkout to save 30% on hundreds of additional titles.

Whether you're stocking up on books for Writing Roots or Reading Leaves, or simply refreshing your classroom library with the latest releases to encourage reading for pleasure, our partnership with Peters makes book-buying more affordable.

2. Partnership with easyfundraising

School Library

We’ve teamed up with easyfundraising so that every time your school community shops online, they can raise money for literacy resources. By signing your school up, every purchase made at over 8,000 retailers will generate free funding. These are places parents and teachers will already be shopping at -  M&S, Etsy, Tesco, and Amazon to name but a few - so why not make that weekly spending count?

It’s simple: shop as usual and participating retailers will donate to your school. You can use the funding however you like… stock your shelves, put it towards your Literacy Tree subscription, or buy classroom essentials like pens and flipchart paper!

3. Literary Lending Libraries

We know that reading lessons often require multiple copies of the same text. Sometimes, school budgets can make this tricky - even with our exclusive 32% discount on large book orders through Peters. That’s why we have set up a national network of lending libraries.

These libraries, based in Literacy Tree schools across the UK, provide a free lending service for sets of Reading Leaf novels. We're committed to growing collections of novels, with each host school holding 15 copies of each title, ready to loan to other member schools. At a time when budget constraints can make accessing essential resources difficult, we hope this community-driven, trust-based system helps ease the pressure on teachers.

Reading Leaves

We don’t pretend to have all the answers when it comes to the tough financial decisions schools face. What we do know is that having physical books in the classroom is invaluable, supporting children to grow into confident readers and writers. We hope that these three suggestions can support our schools to deliver the best possible literacy provision, without placing undue strain on their budgets.
