Brunswick Park Primary, Camberwell

We are a two-form entry primary school in an increasingly diverse urban area. We plan our curriculum carefully to reflect our community, which is changing fast, and Literacy Tree texts and sequences fit perfectly with our values and ethos. Teachers and leaders love knowing that during the seven years our children are with us, they are exposed to a rich diet of the best children’s literature, written by a wide range of authors, and featuring characters from all kinds of families and backgrounds.

One of the best things about the Writing Roots is that every piece of writing in them has a clear sense of audience and purpose. Our children really enjoy writing in role and feeling that they are writing for a reason, and this sense of enjoyment and purpose is seen in children’s books. Planning from such strong planning sequences has strengthened our teachers’ subject knowledge and helped shape the way we structure the rest of the school’s curriculum.

Systems and consistency at Brunswick Park have developed and improved. As leaders, we found that the rigour of the sequences, the support offered to subject leaders and all the fantastic content on Literacy Tree's website supported us very well at a stage when we needed to improve teaching and learning rapidly.

The consultants’ expertise was invaluable and gave us the confidence to embed a high-quality writing curriculum, the teaching of which has resulted in writing now being a strength across the whole school.
