The Grange School, Daventry

At The Grange School, Daventry we have placed reading and books at the heart of our curriculum, in order to introduce the children to a world beyond our small, market town.

Our curriculum aim is for all our children to become 'Aspirational Changemakers' and throughout our curriculum runs the golden thread of 'diversity'. The promotion of diversity is prominent in the Literacy Tree texts and our children really enjoy learning about the world through the eyes of the characters in their class readers. Pupil feedback has been excellent and the children talk knowledgeably about stories they have enjoyed. Their passion for the texts, and the issues explored within them, is evident! These texts are contributing to us improving our children's cultural capital.

We set out to establish a love of reading in all our pupils and the wide range of texts is certainly helping us to achieve this. Our children want to read, and re-read, texts studied in class and you can hear groans from entire classes of children when the teacher leaves the story at a crucial moment!

Our staff also tell us how they love the Literacy Tree texts - including the beautiful illustrations that feature in many of them. This year, the texts have reignited their passion for teaching English. The Literary Leaves resources are also giving our teachers the confidence to actively teach reading with greater understanding, skill and expertise.
