"The course has helped me to understand that the Writing Roots are not a scheme and are therefore not set in stone. This means I can adapt accordingly to meet the needs of my class."
Kate, St Michael's East Wickham C of E Primary School, Autumn 2023
A one-day year-specific course covering practical strategies for using high-quality children's literature as the primary approach to the teaching of English. This course is ideal for people who are new to Literacy Tree or changing to another year group.
The course covers the pedagogy and the approach but one section of the day exemplifies this using a focus text and goes through each aspect. The book we will be exemplifying with is The Lizzie and Belle Mysteries: Drama and Danger by J. T. Williams. We will be looking at this online but if you prefer to have a physical copy, please purchase in advance.
"It was useful to see how the Writing Root could be used for a particular text. I loved hearing ideas of working walls and vocabulary collection. There were some really good ideas shared and would have loved more of this."
Julia, Oldcastle Primary School, Autumn 2023
"I enjoyed the breakout rooms and getting a chance to speak to and share ideas with other teachers. Also, loved getting to see the resources in action!"
Melanie, Wellington Primary, Autumn 2023
"I particularly enjoyed the use of the resources - grammar splats, jigsaw feelings, and noun phrases. Looking at the extended write and working backwards from it."
Ololade, St Mary's Lewisham CE Primary School, Autumn 2023
